See the world
like an owl
Owls have super-powered
eyesight, especially in low
light. While you walk, try
noticing things you've
never spotted before.
Can you see tiny insects
in the grass? The pattern of
bark on a tree? The different
shapes of leaves? Take it slow
and look for little details - you
might be surprised at what you see.
Hedgehogs use their little feet
to explore the ground as they
snuffle along. Walk slowly
and feel the earth with each
step. If it's safe, you could
even walk barefoot. Can you
feel twigs snap? Try gently
touching different things you
see with your feet - rough bark,
soft grass and cool rocks.
Honeybees have taste receptors on their
antennae and feet - this helps them test
nectar and pollen before they eat it.
Although we don't taste with our
toes, you can still breathe in the fresh
air and enjoy the flavours of nature.
If you're with an adult who knows
what's safe, try a wild treat, like
a blackberry or some mint leaves.
Animals use all
their senses to sniff,
listen, and look out for
exciting things around them.
When you go for a walk, you
can do the same. Let's find
out how to follow in
their footsteps.

Feel your way
like a hedgehog
Taste like a bee
Foxes have amazing hearing - they can even hear
mice moving underground. Take a moment to close
your eyes and listen. Can you hear birds singing?
Leaves rustling in the wind? Maybe the distant sound
of water or the hum of bees?
Paying attention to these
natural sounds can help you
feel alert and connected
to your inner wild animal!
Listen like a fox
Feeling stuck indoors? Walking in nature is great fun and good for you too
Sniff the air like a deer
Deer use their keen sense of smell to detect food, danger, and
even their friends. Take a deep breath through your nose - what
can you smell? Freshly cut grass? Damp earth after the rain?
Maybe wildflowers, pine needles, or even the scent of
animals nearby? Noticing nature's smells can make
you feel more awake.
