Hedgerows are made up of plants
such as hawthorn and hazel. They're
good shelter for mice, hedgehogs,
toads and other animals. And birds,
bees and butterflies love the flowers,
nuts and berries.

Glow worms are
not worms but small
beetles. On June and
July evenings, watch
out for greeny
orange lights
in grassland
- they're female
glow worms
lighting up their
bottoms to
attract a mate!
Beat the heat this summer
We love the summer! Days are longer and brighter, and there's so
much to do and see, especially outside. But don't forget, high heat
can be uncomfortable - and dangerous - for us, and animals.
Remember: all our
animal pals need shade
and water to keep cool
Cats, dogs and small furries, such
as rabbits and guinea pigs, all
need shelter from direct sunlight
and somewhere to live where the
air stays fresh and cool. Keep
them away from stuffy places
such as sheds, greenhouses,
caravans and conservatories,
which can easily overheat.
Make sure they have plenty
of water, too. Animals need to
drink more in the heat, just like
us humans. Try adding ice cubes
to drinking water when it's extra
hot. Paddling pools and wet
towels also help keep pets
cool and comfortable.

Have you seen fox cubs playing?
They'll chase each other for hours!
It looks great fun but
they're also
learning
survival

they can
leave their

the autumn
to find a
place of
their own.
