ChIcKs iN tRoUbLe
Fluffy hatchlings (newborns) who can't fend for themselves may
need help if they fall. Older chicks can climb though, and it's normal
for them to fall as they practise exploring. But some might injure
their wings, become unwell or get separated from their parents.
Tawny owlets are often fine on the ground, and can climb back up to their nests. If you
spot an owlet on the ground, keep your distance and listen out to see if they're calling
to their parents. If you hear mum or dad calling back, the chick is likely to be safe,
but check back the next day to make sure.
If you're still worried, get your grown-up to call the local wildlife rescue centre and
they will know what to do.
Keep your distance - owls can carry bird flu and those talons (claws) are big and sharp!

"Does this owl need help?"
Flying the nest isn't easy.
In late spring and summer,
tawny owlets often fall
from their treetop nests
and can't climb up again.
Here's how our four
RSPCA wildlife centres
- East Winch in Norfolk,
Mallydams Wood in East
Sussex, Stapeley Grange
in Cheshire and West
Hatch in Somerset -
care for them.
